Zyon McCollum helped keep Atlanta off the scoreboard in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 16 to 0 win at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday, November 1. The cornerback intercepted Michael Penix Jr. at Tampa Bay’s 14-yard line, cutting off a Falcons scoring opportunity. It was one of four interceptions by the Bucs’ defense, according to the team’s game recap.

After the game, I caught up with McCollum for Drip With Diggs to talk jewelry and personal style. When I asked whether he wore jewelry, he initially said he did not have any. I pointed out the ring on his hand, and he acknowledged the one piece.

That simple band fits the approach he described: low-key, with choices connected to his interests. McCollum said he gravitates toward nature and neutral colors. In the locker-room photograph from our conversation, he wears a charcoal “She is Football” T-shirt with a Buccaneers logo, with the band visible as he gestures toward the IFC microphone.

As we talked about symbolism, McCollum also spoke about the opportunity to represent people through what he wears. He described having a voice and a platform, and wanting to use them for people who have less opportunity to be heard. For him, the meaning of a choice is part of its appeal.
